On Tuesday we visited Glendalough for our annual retreat. The retreat was based around the theme of St. Kevin. We walked around the gardens and were lead by our guide. We took in the nature around us and participated in many silent walks in order to reflect. We walked around the whole area within the length of the day. It was a very relaxing experience and it was good to be out in the fresh air and sun whilst on our retreat. Overall I thought it was really good and feel great after it :D Karen x
We were entered into a mini company competition called the get up & go competition. We competed with other mini company groups. The competition was held in the red cow hotel. We were interviewed by judges about our product, the marketing, manufacturing, etc behind our business. As we do not yet have a product we were convinced we would be walking away without any prize, however we won a trophy for second place for innovation ( originality). Maybe there is some hope after all. Whether we are going to go head and make the book is uncertain for the moment , If we are ill let you know! Karen x
The photographer came into our school during the week and took photographs of different students who had taken part in events or reached some sort of achievement. Transition years were included in it for : mini company, The Margaret Aylward drama show, The briery Gap drama competition, Tag rugby, The formula 1 Competition, and the Young Scientist. It was nice to remember all the enjoyable events once more , half them forgotten about because of the busy schedule we are used to :) , hopefully there will be achievements to come! Music night turned out to be a success. The whole Ty year group sang a song together on the night. We sang mama said by Dionne Bromfield. It was a really lively song and seemed to keep everyone including ourselves interested :) , It was an enjoyable night and hopefully fund raised a good bit for the music department in our school! We had our Hockey Final last week against Glasnevin. We had previously played the same team a week earlier and unfortunately the score was the same for both matches. We lost 1 -0 but we were still given a medal each for reaching that far. We played extremely well and were still proud of our efforts and our amazing coach Ms Van. Hopefully next year we will go all the way! Karen x
In Home EC we have been assigned a project whereby we research a country of our choice and choose two savoury dishes and one sweet dish based on traditional food from that country. Myself and Rebekah chose China as we love Chinese food and would love to be able to cook a healthier version of take away. On Tuesday we made sweet and sour chicken with boiled rice. We followed a recipe that had been given great reviews and thankfully our turned out great too! So glad we picked china :) The two of us had not done Home EC for junior Cert and I think for that reason the novelty of cooking is still there and we felt like we had accomplished something amazing when nothing burned :)
On Tuesday myself and the rest of the junior hockey team started our new league. We played our match in Lucan against St. Joseph's school. We still played through the wet and cold weather. However in the end it was worth it as we won our match. Hopefully we will continue the rest of the league in the same pattern :)
